Nova 93.7 targets an active urban population in Perth and their website is a brilliant example of how to blend linear, broadcast media, with new media. Here's what we have learnt from our interview with Brett Sandler, Digital Client Manager at Nova.
1. Make it two way
Nova does more than announcing shows and offering a stream. Listeners can create their profile, share their pics, stories, sounds and videos.
2. Use the existing platforms
Since Twitter worked well for the station, Nova now uses Twitterstreams to create dialogue with the studio.
3. Stick to your brand identity
What you hear is what you click on. Nova has this tiny little rough angle but it's not all-the-way-alternative. That's exactly what the pages and divisions of the website feel like.
4. Create an experience
There's audio and video around every corner. It's almost as much fun as listening to the station. But then the advertising model is clever, for the radio's sponsors are well integrated on every web page.
5. Be honest
When listeners show a lack of appreciation for one of Nova's station liners, management decided to change it.
